Lackadaisy.
Jan. 20th, 2011 03:11 amSo today I was bumming around on deviantART, just minding my own business, when someone on my watch list posted a journal update. Included in it was a reference to a particular expressions tutorial, and a glowing recommendation. I thought to myself, "o hay mebbe I can lernz sometin frum dis" (like how to not parody myself with noob-speak, heh), and checked it out.
Whoa.
The tutorial is amazing. It teaches all kind of cool stuff about drawing expressions, all in a very entertaining way. The woman who wrote it draws a webcomic called Lackadaisy, so I thought I might as well check it out.
*cue explosion of all things awesome*
I have been reading this comic for less than day, and already it is quite possibly my favourite webcomic ever. Sorry Questionable Content, you may have just been outdone. :c
Lackadaisy:
- Is set during the Roaring Twenties, with all the awesomeness that that entails
- Focuses around a group of illegal alcohol smugglers in St Louis during the Prohibition (look it up!)
- Is an anthro comic (cats), not because the author is a furry, but because she finds that cats are more expressive to draw
- Is indeed, very expressive
- Has very realised and personality-rich characters
- Has above-professional-level art (seriously)
Go read it. Here's the first page. Go there and start reading. Now.

There's something else, though. As I was reading, I felt something spark inside me. Lo and behold, my classy streak has been reawakened! Yes, I am a lover of all things classy. You wouldn't think it to look at me, or my current living situation, but I really am. I mean, pinstripe suits as "casual" clothing? Awesome hats with everything from feathers to playing cards stuck in the brims? And who could forget the ladies' outfits too, mmm... :3
Dinner parties - not stupid teenagers getting drunk and screwing like rabbits, but eloquent gentlefolk gathering to actually discuss interesting things. Chess and cards by firelight, jazz music, the occasional dance (yes, I enjoy ballroom dancing too, shut up). And hopefully, a little less of that stupid politics shit. Only problem is World War 2 springing up after a while. :(
I'm not much of a "fashion" person. My idea of good clothing is cheap, comfortable (read: loose and baggy), and lots of pockets. But if I had to pick a time period to pick my clothes from for the rest of my life, it would be the late 20's. Even if only for the hats. I want a fedora with a playing card - a ten of spades - in the brim. It doesn't get awesomer than that.
So, uh, yeah. You get the idea. I like classy.
*cough* Anyway. If you haven't already, go read it please. Will not regret.

In other news, I'm going bowling on Friday with Gemma, an old friend from high school. I haven't seen her for ages, so it'll be interesting to see how we've changed since I changed schools.
Whoa.

Welp, it's nearly half past three, so I should probably get some shuteye. 'Night all.
