May. 28th, 2011 07:40 pmLast Tuesday, I was watching a movie in my unit at work, when suddenly the transformer for my laptop's power cable let out a bang and a spark. The cable was completely fried. I turned it off immediately so that the battery wouldn't run out before I had a chance to clear my stuff off it.
My laptop was useful, but it was old as hell, and a piece of shit. Half the keys stuck, and a couple were missing altogether. The touchpad didn't work, the power supply was shoddy, the wireless didn't work, and there were numerous other faults I won't get into.
So I decided to buy a new one. On Friday I headed up to town to buy it, and am now typing this out on it. I've got it dual-booting Windows 7 and Arch, the latter of which I immensely prefer and am using right now.
Some people might have wondered why I was making a fuss about its name on Twitter. See, with Linux computers, they actually have host names. Calling it "localhost" (which is the default) might be the technically correct name, but it's obviously boring. I ended up calling it Clutch, after the JSRF character, and because the name "Sparkplug" would be awesome for a netbook and still fits the "car parts" theme. ^_^
