Some of you may remember that I have a cat, who goes by the name of Sovereign. He's a ginger and white tomcat (we never got him desexed, you'll see why in a minute).

Shortly before we were going to book him into the vet, my sister got a kitten of her own. Now, this wasn't a very bright move, but it was her birthday and she wanted a cat and all that jazz. You know how it is. -_-

They didn't get along, not at all. Clare got a male cat, as if one wasn't enough, calling him Tybalt (she's a Shakespeare nut). They spat and hissed and fought, and after one of my other sisters got a puppy (who also fought with Sov), he ran away.

We didn't see him for a long time. I thought he was dead for a while, actually. I wasn't too heartbroken - I've had plenty of pets die on me, and I've learned to deal with it. But then we saw him here and there around the town, and today, nearly six months after he went missing, a sister and one of her friends caught him and brought him home.

First thing I did was pull two paralysis ticks off him, and I have to look again after this to check for any more. He's terrified, very sick, and in a lot of pain from the joint-affecting poison.

I'm not actually sure what I'm going to do with him. I can't afford to take him to the vet, and I can't keep him around, not with a male cat AND a large male dog to fight for territory over. He'd just run off again, and who knows how many kittens he's already sired. Feral cats are trouble.

My two best options are either to give him to the RSPCA or the pound.

If I give him to the RSPCA, he'll get taken care of, but if they charge me for taking care of him then it's a no-go. I can't afford to fork over several hundred dollars for desexing and shots and other treatment; I might as well take him to the vet. I thought he was dead, so I made no arrangements in case he came back.

Or I could give him to the pound, and unless they found a home for him (which is possible, that's where we got our lovely female dog from) he would most likely be put down. I don't want that to happen, but I could live with it. At least I would know that it would be humane, and he would neither be in pain or out damaging the local wildlife.

It's a tough choice, and while I think I might have to take him to the pound, I do want to see if there are any other options.
