These are my thoughts on the new ending. Spoiler-safe, in case you've never played ME3.
Basically, there was a lot less bullshit this time around. While they were essentially the same events, things were explained, stuff was more balanced. The original ending was horrible. It took everything Shepard had ever stood for and spat on it. I rejected it completely and chose my own headcanon, because fuck that. It wasn't so much that it was a painful ending, or hard to accept - while it was those things, it was also horribly written.
But this is much better. The outcomes of these weird-arse choices actually have some meaning to them now. Meaning regarding what Shepard stood for, and regarding the core themes of the Mass Effect series.
I played through all four endings. Yes, there's a new ending now (at least, I think it's new - I don't think you could select it before). Not exactly a "good" one, not really hard to find, and it's pretty short - it's basically complete rejection of everything. Just a giant "fuck you" to the whole situation. It's there for those who want it.
Oh, and none of that bullshit about needing to play the multiplayer to get the "real" ending! It's automatically there. ^_^
Alright, Bioware. Yes, this should have been how it was from the beginning, there was executive meddling, EA can get fucked, blah blah. But as damage control goes, you're not too bad. The whole in-game reason why there are such weird choices is still fucked, but the outcomes will do. Canon accepted. :)
Oh, and if you're curious, the red ending is canon for my Shepard, although I rather liked the closure for the green ending, too.
There's not really much else to it. I was going to do a second, spoilery entry, but fuck it, it's late and this is all I really have to say anyway. :)
